Mission: Impossible

When an IMF team are catastrophically compromised on an operation to root out a traitor, sole survivor Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is framed for the fiasco. Hunt goes on the run direct to the criminal on the other of the side of the deal and offers to complete it hoping to find the real traitor in the process.

CW: absurd age gap between the Jim Phelps character (John Voight) and the character's on-screen wife (Emmanuelle Béart)

This is old and looks it.

They use payphones. The sequence where Hunt uses "The Internet" probably looked a bit silly then and is simply ludicrous now.

The famous tentpole scenes: the dangling in the secure room and the helicopter in the tunnel look very tame.

However, structurally it probably did define a turning point in action movies shifting into the noughties. Its twisty plot layered on top of scenes which are in isolation simple action fare is a big step up from a lot of 90s stuff.

Overall still good 7/10 but a weird kind of period piece.
