Runaway

It is 199x and robots have replaced lots of manual labour in all manner of sectors. They tend the fields, work construction, cook our meals and babysit our children. Nonetheless sometimes they malfunction and go "runaway", usually in pretty harmless ways.

Sergeant Jack R. Ramsay (Tom Selleck) and his new partner Officer Karen Thompson (Cynthia Rhodes) work the Runaway squad, seen as a pretty oddball dept. perhaps akin to animal control.

Then one day a standard housemaid unit goes berserk, killing two and putting a child at risk. Ramsay deals with it but uncovers a conspiracy to turn harmless robots into killers.

In the near future the two Koreas unite out of necessity when the world political situation destabilises. This partially works but there is great hardship, partially caused by international sanctions. Civil unrest builds and a Special Unit, the Wolf Bigade is formed to deal with the worsening situation and a nascent terrorist group, The Sect.

Infamous for a massacre of innocent schoolgirls they are the only thing The Sect really fear.

Now some years later Special Unit member Im Joo-kyung is injured in an operation against the Sect, reminiscent of the old atrocity. Afterwards he is sent to visit the sister of one of the Sect members Lee Yoon-he, unaware he is being set up in a guilt/romance sting to further discredit the Special Unit.

Johnny Mnemonic

In the near future the world is a dark dystopian place with massive inequality and huge corporations effectively running things.

Information technology has become ubiquitous with people inhabiting cyberspace but also infusing their bodies with technology. Corporate wars and infighting are everywhere and the line between organised crime and business is very grey. Some fight back against oppression in the real world others in cyberspace.

Living on the fringes of the corporate world is Johnny (Keanu Reeves) who transports data for money, uploaded into his mind through an implant. His latest job goes badly wrong after he overloads his mind with stolen data just as vengeful Yakuza turn up to take it, killing his customers in the process.

Escaping, he heads to the drop-off hoping to offload the data, pursued by the Yakuza who want to remove it from his head slightly more forcefully. When he arrives he falls in with local bodyguard for hire Jane (Dina Meyer) who says she knows a guy who can help.
