Prospect

Damon (Jay Duplass) is an itinerant prospector going from job to job with his daughter Cee (Sophie Thatcher).

He gets word of a great strike on a poisonous forest moon and the pair have three days to grab what they can and leave on the freighter currently parked in orbit.

What was already a risky job gets harder when they run into opportunistic bandit Ezra (Pedro Pascal).

JUNG_E

Mankind unites to overcome the challenges of climate change and conquers low earth orbit, building great orbiting habitats but shortly afterwards civil war erupts.

Famed Mercenary War Heroine Yun Jung-yi (Kim Hyun-joo) is left critically injured in a battle that could have ended the war.

Now years later her own daughter Yun Seo-hyun (Kang Soo-yeon) is leader of a project to train an AI modelled on Jung-yi's mind to pilot a fleet of robot warriors (JUNG_E)

to finally end the decades long conflict.

This does not go to plan.

Men

Harper (Jessie Buckley) rents a large historic home in a small village to get away for a while after the suicide of her husband.

At first she revels in the nature and quiet but then while on a walk finds she is being stalked by a naked man who eventually ends up back at the house. The Police respond quickly and effectively but this is not the last trouble she will face from Men.

Moon

In the future, Earth's energy problems have been solved by He3, strip mined from the surface of the moon by automated harvesters. Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is a lone maintenance worker making sure this runs like clockwork. The live satellite link is down so his only company is a tethered robotic assistant Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey) and he tends to anthropomorphise things around the station.

He's approaching the end of his three year contract, glad to return to his family as he's feeling increasingly tired and sick. Occasionally he sees things.

When one of the harvesters breaks down he takes a drive out to fix it but loses concentration and crashes his rover.

No good will come of this.

Vesper

In a world made grim by a slow Gibsonian Jackpot apocalypse young Vesper (Raffiella Chapman) tends to her paralysed father.

People scrape a living in the mud where most life has been replaced or hybridised with artificial genetically engineered organisms. Nothing edible grows but the seeds produced by the last bastions of technology and comfort: The Citadels.

When a Citadel flyer crashes and she rescues one of the occupants, Vesper hopes this will be their ticket up into the sky.

This does not come to pass.

CW: very mild body horror, some play with themes of slavery and untermensch/unpersonhood

Red Dawn

In an alternative history of the Cold War the Soviet Union makes a sudden surprise invasion of the United States with a mixed force of troops from different communist states.

In the ensuing chaos a group of young adults escape to the Colorado mountains with rudimentary supplies and weapons. After hiding out for some weeks they return to town only to find many people they knew dead and those remaining living in fear of the occupiers.

They resolve to fight back, engaging in partisan activity under the banner of their High School football team, The Wolverines.

CW: war crimes and quite a lot of mostly bloodless battle scenes

The Hunt for Red October

It is the height of the Cold War and the Soviet Union has developed a new submarine drive, essentially making a boat untrackable. The shakedown voyage of this new terrifying first strike weapon, the Red October, is handed to legendary submarine Captain Marko Ramius (Sean Connery).

CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) has been following the development of the Red October and when it is detected leaving port there is great consternation in the US military command.

Shortly after leaving base, Captain Ramius kills his political officer, ignores his orders and plots a new course. Neither side knows his intentions.

A Banquet

After Betsey's (Jessica Alexander) father dies, the family try to carry on as before. Her mother Holly (Sienna Guillory) cooks lavish meals and keeps the house immaculate while spiralling into debt and sister Izzy (Ruby Stokes) struggles to enjoy the things she used to.

Then one night Betsey has an epiphany under the night sky and discovers new purpose. Divine purpose.

Krull

When The Beast, an ancient and otherworldly tyrant, brings his asteroid-like dark fortress to the planet Krull he sends out his Slayers to conquer the world.

Two warring Kingdoms propose an alliance to fight The Beast that is to be sealed by marriage between Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) and Princess Lyssa (Lysette Anthony). On the night of the wedding, The Beast's Slayers storm the castle and kidnap the Princess and kill the King.

Having survived this, Prince Colwyn intends to rescue her and slay The Beast but first he must retrieve an ancient fabled weapon, The Glaive.

X

Texas, 1979. Strip club owner Wayne Gilroy (Martin Henderson) has organised a porn movie shoot involving his star performer Bobbie-Lynne (Brittany Snow), professional stud Jackson Hole (Scott Mescudi) and his new girlfriend Maxxine (Mia Goth) who wants to break into the adult industry.

To keep costs down he's using a couple of film students who want to make "a good dirty movie" for the camera work and has hired the summer house on a farm belonging to an elderly couple without telling them what they intend to get up to.

No good will come of this.

CW: some porn movie imagery, moderate gore

The Pale Blue Eye

Following the death of one of the cadets, the senior staff at the West Point military academy call in retired New York Detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) to discreetly investigate.

One of the cadets, who has a thing for mysteries, becomes involved in the work. It is a young Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling).

CW: sexual assault, autopsy scenes

The Menu

Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) is a fine dining enthusiast and has secured an evening at the restaurant of Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), which is situated on a private island. It promises to be a magical experience tailor made for the most elite of gourmands.

His date Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) is less interested in such things but resolves to make the best of the evening.

No good will come of this.

The Sword and the Sorcerer

Titus Cromwell (Richard Lynch) covets the kingdom of Ehdan and raises the Sorcerer Xusia (Richard Moll) from his tomb to aid in his conquest.

When the land is taken, the heir to Ehdan, Prince Talon (Lee Horsley) escapes and grows up to be a great mercenary and pirate.

Now a decade after he lost a kingdom Talon returns for revenge.

CW: objectification of women of the "slutty concubines" variety and the worst wigs I have seen for a long long time.

Warriors of Future

In a world ravaged by war, humanity huddles under artificial skies that attempt to clean the air of pollution.

Adding to this already terrible situation region B16 is hit by a meteor from which spawns a titanic alien carnivorous plant that is christened Pandora.

Now after many lives were lost trying to contain and destroy Pandora there is a plan to genetically alter it and use it to finish the job of making the world habitable again.

A group of elite soldiers are sent to backup the robots delivering the gene altering virus to the heart of Pandora.

Legend

Carefree Princess Lilli (Mia Sara) loves spending time in the forest with Jack (Tom Cruise) who has been teaching her to speak to animals and some of the lore of the fairies.

Meanwhile The Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) plots to bring eternal darkness to the world so he may rule unhindered. He despatches his evillest goblins to kill the last unicorns dwelling in the forest and tells them to follow the Princess as her innocence will lead them to her.

Lilli persuades Jack to show her the fabled creatures and when she does she reaches out to touch one.

No good will come of this.

Dragonslayer

Tired of the lottery that sacrifices their daughters to an ancient dragon the people of Urland sends a delegation to the great Wizard Ulrich of Cragganmore (Ralph Richardson) led by young Valerian (Caitlin Clarke) asking for help in its slaying.

Agreeing to this he is killed by an agent of their King (who made the pact with the dragon) but his apprentice Galen (Peter MacNicol) resolves to complete the task in his stead.
