Legend

Carefree Princess Lilli (Mia Sara) loves spending time in the forest with Jack (Tom Cruise) who has been teaching her to speak to animals and some of the lore of the fairies.

Meanwhile The Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry) plots to bring eternal darkness to the world so he may rule unhindered. He despatches his evillest goblins to kill the last unicorns dwelling in the forest and tells them to follow the Princess as her innocence will lead them to her.

Lilli persuades Jack to show her the fabled creatures and when she does she reaches out to touch one.

No good will come of this.

Another 80s fantasy I've not seen, Ridley Scott does style over substance before that was all he does.

Much of it looks amazing. Early sections are live action Disney Princess stuff done perfectly.

Then once Tim Curry steps into view in a showstopping performance in full body prosthetics that are still a landmark today and Mia Sara dances herself into the Goth dress to die for it's like a completely different movie.

However much of the middle section is a quite pedestrian rescue mission with a young Cruise showing very little spark and no chemistry with the fairie folk he teams up with to stop Darkness. It's all a bit sub-Labyrinth goblinney nonsense.

If it didn't have Tim Curry being the horniest man alive for about 20 minutes it would have sunk without trace. So so pretty but meh, 5/10.
