Prospect

Damon (Jay Duplass) is an itinerant prospector going from job to job with his daughter Cee (Sophie Thatcher).

He gets word of a great strike on a poisonous forest moon and the pair have three days to grab what they can and leave on the freighter currently parked in orbit.

What was already a risky job gets harder when they run into opportunistic bandit Ezra (Pedro Pascal).

This is very much a Western with sci-fi trappings. People out on the edge of civilisation doing whatever they can to get by.

Pascal kind of channels Malcolm Reynolds and Thatcher's Cee has "seen stuff" despite only being a teen.

It does a load of enigmatic worldbuilding and has great design. The stuff is all messy, industrial and looks like objects with a purpose behind them rather than modern stuff with greebles.

It's mostly character work but when there's action it's nasty brutish and short with a dead person at the end rather than cinematic heroics.

Where it slightly falls down visually is they are very obviously stomping around a US forest in their environment suits.

The leads are good and it'd make a worthy addition to the canon of "real people living on the High Frontier".

Well worth a look, 7/10
