The Rats: A Witcher Tale

A ragtag group of thieves get wind of a huge staged gladiatorial fight run by one of their old foes. While casing the location they encounter a terrible monster that is being used to guard the loot in an underground cell.

What they need to kill it and steal the prize money is a Witcher.

This prequel to Season 4 of The Witcher is an introduction to The Rats: a group of thieves that feature heavily in it. Although because of how it's bookended with spoilers it's designed to be watched after the show, which is an odd decision as it would have made much more sense to serve as an introduction to some of the main new characters in the season.

Sadly it suffers from the same problems the main show now does: poor writing and direction.

It's about as generic a piece of fantasy heist movie as you can imagine and as bland and stale as a petrol station meal deal cheese sandwich. We get Dolph Lundgren as the washed up alcoholic Witcher they team up with but even that is an amalgam of every "former badass everybody thought was past it but has one last fight in him" trope you've seen in every mediocre movie ever. 3/10
