The work is dark and mesmerising, so on hearing he left instructions for it to be destroyed she steals it. It is an instant hit on the notoriously faddy LA high art scene.
No good will come of this.
Dan Gilroy has taken something that could have been a "Tales of the Unexpected" supernatural cautionary tale and made it into a full length star studded affair.
This is a really unusual style of storytelling to see in a movie for adults and I was really impressed with how it played out. Lots of it is casting shade on the high art scene: the characters swan about being horrible to each other before meeting their various grisly ends.
It feels like it may have struggled to find an audience. Not really a horror, not really about art and not really a mystery it's a hard sell.
Nonetheless I very much enjoyed it 8/10, recommended.
