The police return a few days later with more questions and this time the famed private Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is with them. It seems he has been hired to investigate a murder...
Rian Johnson revitalises the whodunit genre with an original story rather than a novel adaptation and fills it with an all star cast. Normally I avoid such things (I can't stand Agatha Christie) but this has such a positive reputation I thought I'd watch it before the sequel appears.
It's funny and keeps working over events with judicious use of flashback where the cast are having a lovely time being awful at each other.
Normally I get frustrated and call bullshit on the deductive leaps made by the gifted Detective in these things but here you can see it being worked through when he enlists the deceased's nurse Marta (Ana de Armas) to talk about the family, their relationships and the night in question. Everything is plainly on the table at some point.
I cared about this in a way I simply couldn't have about the recent Kenneth Branagh outings so that makes it pretty remarkable. Recommended 8/10 but WTF is going on with Daniel Craig's accent. They have to be taking the piss.
