Nelwyn (kinda hobbits) farmer Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) finds the child but the Nelwyn are a bucolic people usually uninvolved in the wars of the Daikini (humans) and tries to return her to one of her own kind.
This doesn't quite work out.
Another 80s fantasy movie I don't think I've ever seen in full until now. This is oddly pitched. It's got a lot in common with family entertainment but a bit too dark in places. It's also unserious but not funny, if your see what I mean. It sort of reminds me of an old Sinbad movie in some ways.
Some of the effects are excellent for the time others naff. Mad stuff happens and they careen from one location to the next.
Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley smoulder at each other after some shenanigans with a love potion. There are comedy pixies with silly French/Spanish accents. Pat Roach wears a skull faced helmet. People shout each others names at each other too much, which is very 80s. Nothing being said in an action sequence? Have an actor shout somebody's name!
It's just a big bag of fantasy "stuff" thrown together and shaken up.
This doesn't make me want to watch the TV sequel/reboot that's coming. It wasn't actively bad it was just very 80s, 5/10 don't spoil your nostalgic memories of this with a re-watch. If you've never seen it, watch something else.
