Alex has a side hustle recording videos of relaxing fireside scenes and posting them on YouTube: he's particularly proud of one of a beach bonfire in Bali.
He's hoping to get good footage so sets his camera up fixed, gazing at the fireplace while they go out for a walk.
No good will come of this
CW: bloody violence, sexual assault
This surreal horror is bonkers. Apparently it was planned originally to be a bait and switch with hours of fireplace video before the action kicked off but now it's just a few minutes.
Initially it keeps the fixed camera but starts to follow people about halfway in.
It's a smorgasbord of random horror elements: hillbilly slashers, a cult, the devil trying to cut deals with the unsuspecting, a cursed tree and alien abduction. Also it wipes back and forth in time showing past events at the cabin.
The performances are patchy, the script occasionally cringe and some of the effects dubious. However it has a certain cheesy charm on account of being unusual and trippy 7/10.
