Predator 2

1990something: it's the middle of a heatwave and drug gang turf war violence is spiralling out of control.

Lt. Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) finds himself being squeezed out of the process by DEA agent Keyes (Gary Busey) but with some of the strange goings on where heavily armed gangs are being wiped out by an unseen faction suspects Keyes isn't really DEA and investigates unofficially.

No good will come of this.

CW: some 80s language, stereotypes, attitudes and scenes you wouldn't do now but it doesn't centre on

This makes Predator look like an exercise in subtle restraint. Stephen Hopkins goes full bore frenetic pretty much all the way through. Massive gun battles and mayhem from the very outset and on-screen action with the Predator itself from early on.

It does feel like a slight throwback to the mid 80s with nods to other action classics and Bill Paxton basically doing his bad taste jokes schtick from Aliens.

The thing that makes it work is Danny Glover. Sure he's kind of doing his "I'm too old for this shit" tough older cop thing that got established in Lethal Weapon but he's GREAT at it.

The whole thing really just rattles along throwing action stereotypes at you so fast you don't get to really blink or complain and the ending is an absolute belter. A decent sequel 7/10.
