Once they arrive in Aurea, as much as everything is very glamorous Elodie's stepmother (Angela Basset) fears things are not as they seem.
Nonetheless Lord Bayford and Elodie resolve to go ahead with the marriage.
No good will come of this.
CW: cartoony violence
This inoffensive Netflix fairytale fantasy is kind of mediocre.
MBB does her "independent young woman with a posh voice" thing and everybody else phones it in especially Ray Winstone. Does he ever not nowadays? Last thing I remember him being good in was Sexy Beast and he was very very good. Where has that actor gone? Shohreh Aghdashloo: the en-vogue actor for gravelly voiced female roles plays an unusually leonine ancient dragon with a long held grudge that is perhaps the best thing in it.
It's seemingly aiming at the 80s family friendly fantasy tale and hits that spot. Those movies might be revered childhood classics to a certain generation but they were always a bit naff and this is just a bit naff too, in an endearing inoffensive way. Some kids will love it I expect and that makes sense, I'm too old for this.
I was hoping for an Enola Holmes but with swords and dragons and this is not that. That might also be targeted at a younger audience than me but has enough spark to have universal appeal.
Meh, 6/10 as Immortan Joe once said: MEDIOCRE!
