Boss Level

Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) is having a bad day. Over and over again. Badass as he is, having a squad of idiosyncratic assassins try to kill you from the moment you wake is no fun. Also at some point he's realised the only woman he ever really loved died and it's got something to do with this.

No matter. He's got time.

CW: Ultraviolence and suicide

Yet another time loop movie this doesn't mess about and drops straight into loop number 100+ where Roy can practically sleepwalk through the first few attempts on his life and already has a routine.

It's obviously fishing in the same pond as "Edge of Tomorrow" and "Happy Deathday" and it really goes for the "quirky assassins" thing that's been big in action movies ever since "The Running Man".

Grillo is perfect for the world weary wisecracking action but struggles a little when bonding with his son etc. Lots of the dialogue is just narration over action but it suits the setup excellently.

No it doesn't make objective sense but it gives you that little buzz you get from repeated reincorporation of similar scenes with each one having a little twist or gag. Just go with it.

Much better than I expected for straight to streaming action comedy 7/10. Nice cameos from Michelle Yeoh and Mel Gibson but really it's all Grillo and he earns his cheque.
