While there is almost nothing to say about this movie's content there is much to say about how well it is constructed and performed.
Taron Egerton is simply fantastic, covering everything from shy young man to rising star, self destructive hedonist and eventually recovering addict. He does great performances of well known songs, often with a fantasy element.
One particularly memorable scene is a performance of Rocketman that seques from suicide attempt to drowning duet with his younger self at the bottom of a swimming pool to ambulance, hospital, stage performance in the iconic baseball costume and finally taking off into space.
Being released around the same time as Bohemian Raphsody and having many stylistic, story and real world parallels this is perhaps the better movie, partly because it's more visually imaginative.
Does it say anything we didn't expect? No. It is however nicely entertaining and stuffed with great music and visuals, 7/10. It's like an action movie of biopics and I mean that as a compliment.
