High Life

Aboard an ageing spaceship, Monte (Robert Pattinson) struggles to raise an infant child.

He is the last survivor of the original crew, sent to a distant black hole to conduct hazardous experiments.

Slowly we learn how he came to be here, alone, and why he can never go back.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

Ugly.

Very ugly.

More reminiscent of 70s thought pieces than anything this is a miserable, ugly story with a crazed Doctor (Juliet Binoche) conducting odd reproductive experiments in a prison-like coercive environment.

It's got rape, violence, hopelessness and for some reason a mechanical masturbation chamber.

Maybe it's too highbrow and sensual for me and the message flew over my head. I think not though, at one point another ship arrives and what's on board slaps you in the face with metaphor so unsubtle I audibly scoffed.

I think it's just nasty and miserable. Who paid for this to be made? Avoid like fuck, 1/10.
