Rising star salesman Lockhart (Dane Dehaan) is dispatched to bring the CEO back, by any means necessary.
No good will come of this.
CW: body horror, sexual assault, sadistic dentistry and eels, lots of eels
"So we need James McAvoy as the Jonathan Harker character, Summer Glau as the shoeless waif, Gary Oldman as the sinister Doctor and I'm thinking Guillermo Del Toro to Direct"
"Best I can do you is Dane Dehaan, Jason Isaacs, some new girl called Mia Goth and GDT's busy for a decade, will Gore Verbinski do?"
This grand gothic tale is too long, too rambling and frankly just too old fashioned for anybody but GDT to get away with. It looks absolutely ravishing, they get value from every cent they spent on green tinged sanitarium tiling.
It did keep me well entertained, mostly because it's so visually arresting, but ultimately just flails about doing Roger Corman but modern. Not necessarily a bad thing but not enough on its own.
7/10 mostly for the aesthetics.
