The hottest party ticket is anywhere Hayley and Joss pitch up with the hand: supposedly the embalmed hand of a medium that can put you in touch with the dead. Videos of the unnerving results are all over their phones.
One night they manage to get an invite and Jade's younger brother Riley (Joe Bird) tags along, like he does.
No good will come of this.
CW: self harm, gore
Another microbudget horror that accomplishes more with makeup and sound design than many a big production does with everything at their disposal.
It's a classic "ouija board gone wrong" tale but the hand gives it unique iconography and the spirits summoned are smart and manipulative not the usual jump scare nonsense.
Made with care and creativity it's another of those rare films that makes it seem believable that we're looking at a group of young people facing something awful and not knowing how to deal with it rather than "teens get slaughtered, hur hur aren't they dumb". It's kind of like "Bodies Bodies Bodies" and "It Follows" in this regard.
Recommended 8/10.
