Docking with the Cygnus the crew find Dr Rheinhardt, chief scientist for the mission, still conducting experiments and claiming to be on the verge of a breakthrough.
Reinhardt offers them a chance to resupply and repair before going on their way.
No good will come of this.
This wilderness years Disney is part disaster movie, part Bond, part post Star Wars cash in.
It's not as weak as its reputation suggests. They do great spectacle with big sets and big mattes.
It's very stagey, with a feel like classic early sci-fi cinema such as Forbidden Planet. Maximillian Schell hams up to the max as Dr Rheinhardt and his robotic henchman Maximillian is one of the great robot designs. VINCENT and old BOB are also classics and their flying motion is well done.
The Cygnus is a great design and they really get across the "ghost ship" feeling.
Better than expected, 7/10. Yes it's got one of the great WTF endings but it works for the era.
