Nik Khan (Golshifteh Farahani) his business partner and fixer believes he will pull through but even after much medical rehabilitation he ends up 'retired' in a remote cabin.
That is until a mysterious stranger (Idris Elba) finds him the right motivation...
CW: violent as fuck
Not all Netflix productions deserve or get a sequel but Extraction did very well for them and was a pretty good example of the "ultimate badasses doing what they do" genre. It was much better than some of their similar output like the recent "The Grey Man".
This is bigger and badasser than the first. Shit explodes and people get shot, stabbed, blown up, thrown off buildings or smushed in vehicle collisions a lot. I think it has at least four helicopter crashes. Also there's an extended fight on an armoured train. Which of course crashes.
The baddies are Georgian Organised crime this time: an excuse for lots of burly bearded guys with facial tattoos but little else to distinguish them from any other badass fodder.
Does it add anything to the sum of cinema: no.
Does it serve up every bit of badass cliche: yes.
However if you enjoy the occasional OTT display of onscreen badassery in the John Wick vein then this will serve you very well. 8/10 recommended if you like this kind of thing and a cut above the usual straight to streaming action fare.
