Ladyhawke

The thief Gaston (Matthew Broderick) escapes from the dungeon of the Bishop of Aquila and ends up travelling with the imposing Captain Navarre (Rutger Hauer) who has his own feud with the Bishop.

Long ago, the Bishop cursed Navarre and his love Isabeau (Michelle Pfeiffer) to be alway together but forever apart.

This fairy tale romance is light and mostly family friendly. Like a few bits of of 80s fantasy it uses the medieval church as the bogeyman, something you don't see much now and we're rewarded with a swordfight on horseback in a cathedral.

The scenery is sumptuous and it gives good castle. Broderick does a lot of speaking internal monologue which I hate. Which is odd because I'm guilty of the same myself a lot.

It's quite linear and because they chop up the scenes so Navarre gets a 'day' then Isabeau gets a 'night' it takes a while for anything to happen.

There's a weird moment where Navarre asks for Isabeau to be killed if he fails in his plan to murder the bishop and I was like WTF?

Apart from that it's quite a sweet fun film 6/10.
