The Invisible Man

Cecilia (Elizabeth Moss) does a midnight flit from her controlling tech-bro partner Adrian and goes into hiding with friends, fearful he will enact some kind of revenge.

Shortly after, Adrian is found dead and the inheritance he leaves her gives Cecilia new independence but it soon becomes clear she's not as free of him as she thought.

CW: domestic violence

An odd one this takes the classic character's stalker side and delivers a mashup of abusive partner, poltergeist and life ruining manipulator as antagonist.

Moss is excellent as ever and there's a lot of scenes of otherwise empty rooms where you can't be sure but probably Adrian is there, somewhere, that she has to carry alone even before we get actual onscreen invisible man shenanigans.

Quite tense in parts this is far better than expected 7/10 worth it for taking the genre bending "hey your ex is a rich manipulative asshole but what if he was also INVISIBLE!" elevator pitch and not messing it up.

Also top marks for Blumhouse on turning naff all budget into a movie that stands up well against almost anything you pick off the streaming smorgasbord. I watch a lot of horror adjacent movies despite actively avoiding identifying myself as a fan of horror. I think the sensibilities from horror when applied to other genres often end up with something better than you'd otherwise get.
