Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

When an ancient artefact bursting with psychic power is brought into Ray Stanz' curiosity shop he hands it over to the Ghostbusters without really explaining how dangerous it might be.

No good will come of this.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife felt like it had a point. They introduced the new characters to carry the franchise forward and it did a form of closure for the original ones. It was a bit mawkish but still enjoyable and had some great moments.

Having done that great groundwork this is the dull cash-in.

Too many characters blundering about with underdeveloped plotlines many of which just exist to facilitate reincorporation or cameos. The only real one is centred on Phoebe (McKenna Grace) being told she can't be a Ghostbuster because she's too young and that kind of sums the film up.

We can't have the kids doing all the fun stuff we need to wheel in Dan Akroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray for the fans. Their screen time doesn't probably amount to that much in the end but it sucks up all the energy and means the new characters aren't able to fully step into their roles. It's boomerification writ large.

Boring 4/10.
