Wicked Little Letters

Shortly after the Great War, Edith Swann (Olivia Colman) begins to receive anonymous abusive letters full of the vilest profanity. The prime suspect is Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), her neighbour who she was initially friendly with but with whom a petty feud later developed.

Rose is an Irish immigrant prone to drunkenness and swearing and most definitely the wrong sort so everyone agrees it must be her.

Edith's overbearing father Edward (Timothy Spall) calls the Police and Rose is immediately arrested.

Shenanigans ensue.

You want cosy Britflick period seaside town gossip shenanigans this is for you.

Lots of earthy characters doing big swearing with some comedy sexism centred on PC Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) not being a 'proper Police Officer' but going on to sneakily investigate and solve the case.

It's like a nice sit down and a cup of tea in movie form. Absolutely nothing surprising happens, even Rose's short time on remand is mostly a vehicle for her to tell people to fuck off while being endearing in a hat.

Highly recommended comfort viewing 8/10.
