In the very first hour they pick a fight with a black clad gunslinger (Yul Brinner).
No good will come of this.
Another classic I've never properly watched.
As the robots run amok, the gunslinger stalks the men with charismatic unstoppable menace. This must be a template for The Terminator years later.
What this doesn't do is explore any of the things the TV show did. It is unfair perhaps to expect this given the available runtime but this is played as a straight up "technology gone wrong" movie.
You could perhaps read between the lines that the mayhem is the robots gaining self awareness and enacting revenge, grudges or agency but that feels very retcon for "oops the safeties stopped working".
There's a throwaway line that implies a computer virus (before these were a thing) but it's not explored.
It definitely doesn't discuss what consequence free violent fantasy and sex tourism does to or says about the guests. Then again I do LARP where I pretend to shoot people so who am I to judge.
Some stuff makes less sense than I'd like. There's a bit of "laugh at the fat guy in glasses" comedy that sucks.
Generally disappointing 4/10 and all of those points are for Yul Brinner.
