Con Air

When a bar fight goes wrong mustered out Army Ranger Cameron Poe (Nic Cage) is imprisoned for second degree murder. He keeps himself out of trouble patiently doing his sentence until his parole.

When that day comes he is sent for transport home on a US Marshall's flight along with some of the "worst of the worst" including Cyrus "the virus" Grissom (John Malkovich).

No good will come of this.

CW: racist language, Nic Cage's mullet

This is the third part of the Nic Cage triptych.

It's utterly ridiculous. He jumps through explosions in a white vest while guitar solos screech. Shit explodes. Various excellent character actors provide bad guys to deal with.

There's a bunny and a photo of his daughter. Steve Buscemi is a serial killer. John Cuzak is a US Marshall. Something something Mexican Drug Lord. A classic Corvette gets dropped from the plane.

It's all just there so Nic Cage can look good against a backdrop of destruction and violence and say wholesome protective manly stuff.

It's like if an AI wrote a 90s action movie and they filmed it except ChatGPT wasn't invented yet. It's an archetype not an actual movie it's so contrived.

This doesn't mean it's bad. It's just so awesome it's absurd at the same time. 8/10 like the result of some terrifying eugenics experiment done by crossbreeding action movies until they're all biceps, quips and chest hair but oh so perfect.
