A family wedding is hastily arranged as a pretext for the family to say goodbye to "Nai Nai" but Billi's parents deter her from attending. Travelling alone, she surprises everybody on arrival but the family are insistent that under no circumstances should her grandmother be told the truth.
"Based on an actual lie"
An odd one this, it's a stunningly composed naturalistic portrait of awkward family events, culture clash, the accommodations people make for each other and how things change while we're not looking.
Nothings happens for 100 minutes but while it does you're part of it. People have rambling conversations that fizzle out, smoke cigarettes they shouldn't, get drunk and fall asleep, argue politely with wedding caterers, roll their eyes at earnestly friendly hotel porters who want to chat when you don't etc and somehow this is your life just for a little while.
Highly recommended 9/10 but like I said, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS AT ALL.
