He delivers some final words from Caleb he was asked to pass on and when he goes to leave, mother Laura (Sheila Kelley) insists he stay at least one night.
One night turns into several and he begins to have a positive effect on the family's fortunes. Even Paula's initially sceptical daughter Anna (Maika Monroe) begins to warm to this handsome macho stranger.
No good will come of this.
CW: some action movie violence
This is a really well delivered bit of 90s throwback action thriller from Adam Wingard. It was obviously made for tuppence but that only really shows when you get to the action sequences.
David is eerily pleasant and helpful but his actions get increasingly worrying and it takes the left turn you should have been expecting at 40 minutes in. It also does the neat trick of still maintaining the original tone when it does so.
Throughout it kind of has a "is this a horror movie after all" vibe, the ending especially so. You also get a little Lance Reddick as a treat.
Great stuff 8/10.
