K-Pop Demon Hunters

Rumi (Arden Cho/Ajae), Mira (May Hong/Audrey Nuna) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo/Rei Ami) make up Huntrix: the biggest K-pop band in the world. When they're not wowing audiences they have much more important work to do: maintaing the Honmoon, a magical barrier that deters demons from entering this world and slaying the few that do make it through in battle.

Their huge fan base means the Honmoon is on the verge of becoming 'golden' and forever sealing the demons away.

However the demon Jinu has a plan: a demon Boy Band to fight Huntrix for that fan base.

Sony Pictures Animation really does know how to do this sort of thing. Obviously there's the Spider verse movies but also Mitchell's Vs. the Machines and while they don't set the world on fire the Hotel Transylvania movies do solid business.

This is one of those lightning in a bottle successes that isn't really down to anything very specific, it's well crafted and just seemed to hit at the right moment.

There are impressive songs and fight/concert choreography and visuals but a very normal teen/family friendly story about acceptance, community and a bunch of other wholesome stuff with some gentle romance chucked in. It's helped greatly by being genuinely funny and never getting preachy, and I think that's what meant it had a chance at "happening". It so easily could have "not happened" though.

I've not been converted into a superfan, this is really not my thing so for me this is only a 7/10 but I'm not down with the kids and I can very much see how the kids would be down with this.
