Immediately Indy knows something is wrong: the house is haunted by a dark entity that Indy can see but Todd can't.
CW: jump scares
For his debut Ben Leonberg decided to make a movie with just the assistance of his wife Kari, who produces, a tiny cast and their dog.
Not a professionally trained dog, their pet dog. Then to make this haunted house horror from the dog's perspective. It's certainly one way to make an entrance.
This plays on the common notion of pet animals being able to perceive the supernatural around us. Todd, who is an occasional looming not always kind presence, deteriorates while Indy observes and occasionally wrestles with the dark thing in the house. There's also the ghost of a previous dog who fought a similar battle and bits of Todd's grandfather's fate seen in flashback/dream journey.
It's quite a feat of microbudget filmmaking. Lack of dialogue beyond "man talks to his dog" and nagging phone calls from Todd's concerned sister makes for a slim plot. All conveyed silently by what Indy observes and occasionally interacts with. Sometimes exactly what's going on is a bit vague but it mostly works.
The end result is quite a tense and dread filled oddity that transcends the limitations of its production 7/10.
