This is not an interrogation: Kint has made a deal somehow and will shortly to be granted bail but when pressured he starts to recount how he came to be in this situation. His testimony is sealed and none of this can be used in court so it'll serve to pass the time.
No good will come of this.
"When I was in this Barbershop Quartet in Skokie Illinois..."
Soured by the now persona-non-grata Spacey this is one of the best crime thrillers of the 90s.
Post Reservoir Dogs people were taking all kinds of chances with gritty crime thrillers. Not all of them worked but this with its unconventional narrative style absolutely sings and isn't particularly dated almost thirty years later. Christopher McQuarrie absolutely nailed the screenplay and the cast are perfect.
Perhaps the best rug-pull in cinematic history, 9/10.
