When a masked killer (John Gallagher Jr.) brutally kills her neighbour just outside her home without her noticing he realises she is profoundly deaf.
Maddie's next.
CW: bloody violence and mutilation
This Kate Siegel/Mike Flanagan collaboration is more home invasion than conventional slasher movie. We get to see the killer's face, he interacts with people and while it obviously stretches credulity the standoff that evolves does work.
It fits in the same box as "Don't Breathe" where you've got asymmetry in perception between hunter and prey used slightly exploitatively to make it unusual and interesting. It is however not as inventive.
If you like slasher/lone peril horror this will probably float your boat 7/10 but for me not as great as its reputation suggested.
