Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

Kris (Hannah Einbinder) is a trendy young filmmaker brought in to reboot the Camp Miasma slasher movie franchise. She's a huge fan of it and has made an academic study of the genre.

Kris is eager to recruit the reclusive star of the first movie, Billy Presley (Gillian Anderson) who never starred in anything else. On travelling to Billy's home she realises it is the original shooting location.

No good will come of this.

CW: some stylised slasher movie violence with huge geysers of blood

Jane Schoenbrun again delivers smart weird queer cinema that works for straight-as-fuck me.

Unsurprisingly we find that while Kris has studied the movie, Billy lived it. Idolising turns to infatuation and things get weird. There's bleed from the movie to life to the movie to come and don't expect any clear outcomes but it is very affecting.

Better structured than "I saw the TV Glow" but not as heartbreaking it's still a 9/10.
