Things aren't going particularly great, he's split up with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and sucks at his job at a car dealership but at least he still has friends.
That is until the Time Variance Authority agent "Paradox" (Matthew Macfadyen) shows up and informs him his whole timeline is collapsing because Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) died in the events of "Logan" and offers him a chance to finally really matter.
No good will come of this.
CW: all the big swears and lots of messy comic gore/deaths
I expected to hate this because I'm tiring not only of the MCU timey-wimey Multiverse stuff but also Ryan Reynolds' motormouth smart-alec schtick but I didn't, it was just a bit meh.
Widely spoilered that it was full of cameos from characters/performers from previous iterations of various Superhero properties I expected that to grate more than it did. Some of them are mildly clumsy, some just background characters but they don't bog it down too much.
Constantly feeling the need to do 4th-wall breaking inserts has come to actually hinder the character and when the pair have a fight with the backdrop a half-buried 20th Century Fox logo prefaced by a cringey monologue about how awesome it'll be it's just ridiculous.
In the end though it was adequate in a similar way to The Marvels. Not awful, filled with decent performers and the work of thousands of talented people but not going to get rewatched by me ever, 6/10 meh.
