Queen & Slim

On the way home from a lacklustre Tinder date Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) & Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) are stopped by a lone Police officer. Frustrated with the way the stop is being conducted, lawyer Queen becomes confrontational and things escalate until she is shot and wounded and in a scuffle Slim ends up shooting the Police officer.

In a panic they flee the scene unsure quite what to do next.

This BLM-adjacent story is 50% attractive road movie, 50% depiction of a romance that would never have otherwise happened.

It's at its best when it's just watching the two leads travel, come to love each other and do slightly spontaneous things because they don't know when they'll get to be able to do them again.

As it progresses, the politics get a little heavy handed and it commits to an ending that feels like cliché when I'd hoped for something more.

Nonetheless it's still very affecting and well worth a watch, 7/10.
